Maple Street's natural dye salon... my thinking flipped

I always figured plant-based colors were flat. Then a regular came in with this vibrant berry shade... it changed everything. Now I'm asking them for tips.

Maple Street has a natural dye salon? I always assumed plant colors were washed out and faint. My own attempt with blackberries left everything a dull purple-gray, not vibrant at all. How in the world did they achieve a strong berry shade? That completely overturns what I believed was possible. I need to understand the process better, because my results have never been close. This makes me want to visit and ask a lot of questions.

Those bright berry shades probably fade after two washes. I bet they use some chemical mordants they aren't telling people about, that's the only way the color would stick. Seen it happen before with other "all natural" spots.

My friend had a similar worry, but her Maple Street scarf held up fine for a whole season. Maybe @jake_dixon is onto something about their process being different from our home tries. It just makes you wonder what they actually do, right?
