Gear storage debate: Dedicated room vs. simple bins for hiking prep

Some hikers I know dedicate an entire room to sorting gear by season and activity. They say it makes packing faster and keeps things from getting misplaced. I prefer a more laid-back approach with everything in one labeled tote. Which method do you think is better for casual weekend trails?

My sister-in-law in Colorado uses a pegboard wall system for her gear. A quick glance tells her if anything's missing, which is pretty great for last-minute hikes.

A pegboard could even separate gear by trip type for faster grabs.

Used to think it was overkill but now I'm sold.
