TIL that those 'ultralight' rain jackets are actually worth the hype. Got caught in a downpour on the Eagle Creek trail in Oregon and stayed completely dry, didn't even feel clammy.

Which brand did you end up going with for that jacket?

Man, @thomas.piper, it's just a jacket. Ended up grabbing a Carhartt because it was on sale. Not sure the brand name matters all that much if it keeps you warm and doesn't fall apart. People get so deep into the labels sometimes, you know? It's a piece of cloth you wear outside.

I used to be the same way about brands not mattering. Then I bought a cheap store brand winter coat that ripped at the seams in two months. I got a Patagonia one on sale after that, and it's lasted me five years now. The difference in how it's put together is real. It changed how I see buying things that get a lot of wear. You start to see the value in paying a bit more up front sometimes.
