My switch to homemade tomato sauce started with an old cookbook

I found my mom's old cookbook in the attic. It had a simple sauce recipe with just a few ingredients. I tried it instead of my usual store bought kind. The difference in flavor was amazing. Now I make it weekly and add my own twists.

That "add my own twists" part is key. A pinch of sugar can really balance the acidity if your tomatoes are too sharp. Fresh herbs at the end make a huge difference too.

Yeah, @parker246, once you go homemade it's hard to go back. I always throw in a little red wine while it simmers, gives it a deeper flavor. That pinch of sugar Blake mentioned is a total game changer too.

Always bought jarred sauce until I tried homemade.
