Saying I prefer recorded albums over live indie gigs sparked tension

We were hanging out after a local show, all buzzing from the performance. I casually mentioned that I actually enjoy their studio work more than the live set. My friend looked at me like I said something wrong and called me out. A few others jumped in, saying live shows are the heart of indie music. It got quiet for a minute before everyone started talking over each other, which was pretty awkward.

Look, you're just plain wrong on this one. That raw energy in a tiny room with the bass rattling your ribs, that's the whole point. A recorded track is just a cleaned up copy of the real thing. Live is where you see the band actually sweat and maybe mess up, and that human moment beats a perfect studio cut every single time. It's about being part of the crowd, not just listening alone with your headphones. The studio stuff loses all that feeling.

Sound a bit dramatic for just some loud noises.

But what if the studio version came first?
