My skepticism about blown-in insulation melted away on a cold job
I always picked batts for speed, but seeing it fill every gap in an old attic changed my mind. Now I grab the hose for those spots, no question lmao.

Read an article last year about how blown-in stuff settles less than batts in weird shaped spaces. They had thermal camera shots showing the difference in old cape cod attics with low clearance. Made me wonder why we ever used batts in renovations to begin with, you know?

Question if the difference is all that major. Batts are easier to install in most attics anyway. The thermal camera probably makes it look worse than it is.

@the_wesley might be right that thermal cameras make it look bad, but I read a study comparing both ways in old houses. Blown-in insulation always kept heat better because it doesn't leave gaps like batts do. Those gaps might seem small, but they add up on your energy bill. My neighbor used batts and still has drafty rooms, so there's some real world proof. Guess the camera doesn't lie as much as we think.
