AI art generator gave me a hand with 7 fingers last night

I was using Midjourney to make some background images for a project and one character had a hand with 7 fingers. It looked like a spider trying to wave. Took me 10 minutes of re-rolling and tweaking the prompt just to get a normal looking hand. Has anyone else had this issue with AI tools struggling on hands or feet?

Man, my buddy Steve had the exact same thing happen with DALL-E last month. He was trying to generate a portrait of a woman holding a coffee cup and the AI gave her this claw thing with six knobby fingers wrapped around the mug. He spent a whole evening messing with the prompt, finally got a hand that looked normal but the coffee cup was floating three inches away from it.

Actually I gotta push back a little on that timeline @allen.william. DALL-E 3 has been way better with hands since around November 2023. Your buddy Steve might have been using an older version or maybe a different tool like Midjourney v5. I tried making a similar portrait just last week and the hands came out fine on the first try - five fingers, thumb on the right side, normal looking. The floating coffee cup thing though, yeah that one still happens sometimes. It really depends on how you word the prompt, like if you put "holding a cup by the handle" instead of just "holding coffee" it usually works better. Your mileage may vary of course.
