Coworker told me to ignore the AI detection tool - got me flagged for plagiarism

My buddy Dave at work kept saying those AI detectors are BS and to just run everything through ChatGPT. I was writing a report for our engineering team about new materials testing. Used the AI to polish some paragraphs. Next thing I know my manager is asking why the report reads like a robot wrote it and flagged it for review. Spent 2 hours rewriting everything from scratch. Has anyone else had their boss actually check for AI writing and call them out?

Man that sucks. Next time just run it through a humanizer tool after you use ChatGPT. I do that before submitting anything and it sounds way more natural nobody's called me out since.

My nephew showed me something similar last week and I have to admit I was skeptical at first. I figured if you're using AI you should just own it, but the truth is a lot of places have policies against it now. Seeing how much better the text sounded after he ran it through one of those tools, it makes sense why people do it. It gets rid of that robotic tone without changing your actual points. I'm coming around to the idea that it's not cheating, it's just polishing your work.
