Last Tuesday was the worst day I've had with AI tools in months
I was trying to get a local LLM to summarize a 40-page PDF report on renewable energy trends for a client meeting. The thing kept hallucinating data points about solar efficiency that just weren't in the document. I spent 4 hours re-prompting and tweaking settings before I finally gave up and did it manually. Has anyone else hit a wall where a model just refuses to stick to the source material?

Wait, 40 pages? That's insane. I mean, I've had models struggle with like a 20 page document before but 40 pages is just asking for trouble. Maybe it's just me but the token limits on local models are brutal for stuff like that. I tried something similar with a 30 page report on EV battery tech and the thing started making up whole sections about graphene that were never in the source. Honestly, I bet the context window was overflowing and it just started filling in the gaps with whatever it wanted. Four hours of re-prompting must have been exhausting. Idk if it's a model architecture issue or just the limits of local hardware but that sounds like a nightmare.
