Picked a plain text editor over an AI writing assistant for a week
Honestly, every post here seems to push AI to generate drafts, so I tried the opposite. I used Notepad for my weekly firehouse report instead of my usual AI tool that rewrites everything. It took me 40 minutes versus 10, but the phrasing actually sounded like me when I read it back. The AI version always smooths out my bluntness into corporate speak, which I hate. Has anyone else ditched the assistant just to keep their own voice intact?

A buddy of mine runs a small landscaping crew and he went through the same thing last summer. He started using one of those AI tools to write his client emails and quotes because he thought it looked more professional. After a few weeks one of his long time customers called him up and asked if someone else had taken over the business because the emails didn't sound like him at all. That freaked him out enough that he went back to typing everything himself on his phone even though it takes way longer. He told me the extra time bugs him but at least people know it's actually him on the other end. Your report probably reads way better now too because it sounds like a real person wrote it.
