Thought AI transcription was overhyped until it saved my uncle's 40 year old cassette tapes
Honestly I rolled my eyes when my cousin kept pushing me to try it on my uncle's old interviews from his radio days in Tulsa. Ngl I finally ran 6 hours of tape through a free tool last week and it nailed 90 percent of the words, even names and static filled parts. We are mailing the transcripts to my uncle for his 70th birthday next month and he has no clue it is coming. Has anyone tried cleaning up audio before feeding it in, or does that even matter much?
Reminds me of when my dad found a box of old family tapes and we spent a whole weekend just trying to untangle the ribbon with pencils. Half of them still sounded like garbage after. Your uncle is gonna lose it when he opens that box though, that is such a good gift.
