Heard a guy at the coffee shop say anime is just for kids now

Honestly, I was grabbing a latte yesterday and overheard this dude telling his friend that all modern anime is just childish stuff. He specifically said 'it's all bright colors and yelling, like Saturday morning cartoons.' Tbh, it got me thinking about how many shows actually deal with pretty heavy themes. Like, have you guys run into this kind of take before? What's a good recent anime to point someone like that towards?

Oh man, that guy is SO off base. I was at the hardware store last week and heard a similar thing, some guy saying it's all just kids' shows. Has he even TRIED watching anything recent? Like, "Attack on Titan" was about genocide and the cycle of hatred, that's not for little kids. "Chainsaw Man" gets into some seriously messed up trauma and how people use each other. Even "Spy x Family" has this whole layer about found family and living in a society on the brink of war. People just see the art style and write it all off.
