We would send thick envelopes full of typed-up topics and replies. Now all our chats happen on screens, which seems to use less stuff. Do you think talking anime online is kinder to the planet?

Those 1990s anime club mailings probably used one truck for the whole neighborhood route. Now every single streaming discussion runs on data centers burning power 24/7. The old paper method was likely simpler and used less total energy.
