The whole 'beach episodes are filler' take needs to die
I was at a watch party for the latest arc of Jujutsu Kaisen at a friend's place in Austin, and someone said beach episodes are just wasted time. That's when I realized the group had completely missed the point of character downtime in shows like Gintama or even the newer stuff. I straight up told them those moments build the bonds that make the serious fights hit harder, and we ended up debating for 45 minutes. Has anyone else had a group that just can't see the value of slice of life in a battle shonen?

Next time, just ask them why any good movie bothers having quiet scenes between explosions. Works like a charm to shut down the whole "filler" argument.

The "build the bonds that make the serious fights hit harder" thing is dead on. Way too many people sleep on that.
