Tried rewatching Naruto and the first arc hit differently this time
I was sitting on my couch last Saturday with a cold beer, decided to revisit Naruto from episode 1. Got to the part where he ties himself to the tree to train his chakra control, and I realized I totally missed that struggle when I was a kid. Back then I just thought it was cool, but now I see how hard he worked for every little win. I also noticed the pacing drags way more than I remembered, like a whole episode on just that tree scene. Anyone else find old shonen hit different when you're older?

Went from "cool ninja stuff" to "wait this is about childhood trauma.

@morganhayes That exact thing happened to me last week. I sat down to watch a show about a kid finding secret fighting techniques and ended up crying into my popcorn because it hit too close to home. The worst part is when you realize those "cool ninja moments" are actually metaphors for surviving real stuff. Made me put the remote down and just stare at the wall for a solid five minutes. You're not alone in that whiplash feeling.
