Unpopular opinion: The subbed vs dubbed debate is overblown

I was browsing MAL forums the other day and found out that over 60% of viewers actually watch dubbed according to a 2023 survey from Crunchyroll. That honestly surprised me because online you'd think everyone prefers subs. I think both sides are fine and people need to chill about it. Anyone else feel like the debate is mostly just loud people on Twitter?

That 60% stat is wild, I would have guessed the opposite too seeing how loud the sub purists get online. Honestly nice to see some sanity around this, I watch both depending on the show and the dub hate just feels like gatekeeping for no reason.

I actually had a friend who swore by subs for everything, then he watched Space Dandy dubbed because he was half asleep and now he's a total convert (goes to show how much our "principles" really matter when we're tired, right?). But yeah the online crowd makes it seem way more black and white than it is, most people I know in real life just watch whatever sounds good in the moment.
