Built a pergola from pressure treated pine vs cedar and got a surprise result
I built a 12x16 pergola in my backyard in Omaha last spring. I used pressure treated pine for the frame and cedar for the top beams, thinking I'd save money on the hidden parts. Six months later the cedar looks almost new but the pine has split in three places and turned gray. My question is: does anyone stick with just one wood type after trying this mix, or am I overthinking the splitting?

You put pressure treated pine in Omaha and expected it NOT to check and turn gray after six months? Honestly that's like buying a beater car and being shocked when the paint fades. The splitting is just the wood doing its thing as it dries out, happens to every pine pergola I've seen around here.
