Concrete anchor trick that saved my pergola after 3 failed tries
Drilling pilot holes through the bracket into wet concrete with a masonry bit before the mix set is the only way I got my posts to stay put in Portland clay, has anyone else tried this before the concrete cures?

Wait, is this really a thing people need to do? I've set plenty of posts in wet concrete and never bothered with pilot holes, just let the bracket sit and tighten after it cured. Portland clay is rough, sure, but seems like a lot of extra steps for something that usually just needs a decent anchor bolt and patience. Honestly, sounds like the real fix was catching the concrete before it hardened, not the trick itself.
