My neighbor's fence post landed 8 inches into my yard on Saturday
I was out back on Saturday morning planning where my raised beds should go when I heard a crack and watched a 10 foot 4x4 post come down right through my side of the property line. My neighbor Dave was putting up a new fence and his auger hit a rock, so the post tipped over and punched a hole in my lawn about 8 inches onto my side. I walked over with a tape measure and showed him the survey stake from 2019, and he just stared at it for a minute. We ended up pulling the post out together, filling the hole with 2 bags of topsoil, and he shifted his whole line back 6 inches. Now I have a weird patch of fresh dirt where my beds were supposed to go. Anyone else had a fence project spill over the line like this?
Did you guys check if the auger actually hit a rock, or did it maybe hit an old concrete chunk or buried pipe from the last fence? That kind of thing usually means the whole line has junk under it and you might hit it again when you dig your beds. Just a thought before you plant anything there.
