Poured a pad last Saturday that looked like a crater field by Monday

I was doing a 10x12 slab for a buddy's fire pit area in his backyard near Cincinnati. Mixed it a hair too wet to make it easier to work, figured it'd be fine. By the time I pulled the forms Sunday morning, the surface had this weird cracking and flaking, like a dried up mud puddle. Had to chip out a 3x4 section and redo it with a drier mix and a proper float. Anyone else ever get bit by trying to take the easy way out on a pour?

Man that wet mix gets you every time, I learned that one the hard way too.
