Rant: the drainage guy in Cheyenne told me to slope my whole patio and I did not listen
Last summer I built a paver patio behind my house in Cheyenne. About 12 feet by 16 feet, nothing huge. The guy at the stone yard told me flat out to give it a 2 percent slope away from the house or I would regret it. I wanted the pavers dead level because I thought it looked cleaner, so I gave it maybe half a percent and figured that was good enough. First big rain in August, water pooled right against my back door and started creeping under the threshold. I had to pull up 40 square feet of pavers, redo the base, and reset them at the slope he told me in the first place. Cost me a whole weekend and about $80 in new sand and aggregate. Now I check the slope with a string level every few rows and my neighbor thinks I am nuts for being so picky about it. Did any of you learn the hard way that water always wins, or did you actually listen the first time?
