Shoutout to the guy at the lumber yard in Tucson who told me to soak my deck boards in the pool before screwing them down

I was fighting 2x6 cedar planks that kept splitting at the ends every time I drove a screw within 3 inches of the edge. He said toss them in a kiddie pool with a few inches of water overnight so they swell up soft. Tried it on the back 12 feet of the deck and not one split, just clean countersinks. Anyone tried this on pressure treated too, or does the water mess with the treatment?
