The evening sun made my DIY pergola look brand new, 3 months after I built it

Back in May I threw together a 12x16 pergola from cedar and galvanized brackets, nothing fancy. For weeks I kept staring at the uneven cuts and the cheap stain job, honestly it bugged me every time I sat out there. Then last Sunday around 6 PM the low light hit it sideways and the whole thing glowed, suddenly those flaws just disappeared. It clicked that I was judging my work in harsh noon light instead of how people actually use the space. Anyone else judge their build in the wrong light before realizing it looks great at dusk?

So you're telling me the only time you actually SEE the pergola is when you're sitting in it, right? Because if that's the case, why are we all obsessing over how things look in the middle of the day when nobody's even out there? I did the same thing with a deck I built, spent a whole weekend sanding down a joint that was only visible at high noon from one specific angle, then realized the only light I ever use it in is the warm kind right before sunset.
