Went from nailing together raised beds to using brackets. Huge difference.

For years I just screwed together 2x6 planks for my raised garden beds. They'd warp and split by the end of the second season. Last spring I spent $60 on galvanized corner brackets and proper deck screws, and those beds are still rock solid. It took maybe an extra 20 minutes to build, but I'm not rebuilding them every year now. Has anyone else switched to brackets or metal frames and seen a big improvement?

Did you have trouble getting the brackets to sit flush on uneven ground? I tried something similar with those L-shaped brackets from the hardware store, and I had to shim one corner because the ground was sloping. Ended up using a bunch of washers to level it out, which felt a little hacky. That said, I built a three-tiered bed system last fall with those heavy-duty brackets from a garden supply place, and yeah, they are still holding up way better than my old ones. Not the same as your bracket upgrade but close enough. Just a tip, if you ever stack beds, pre-drill pilot holes before screwing into the brackets so you dont twist the screws off. Works for me anyway.

Honestly, the pilot hole tip is gold - I learned that the hard way after snapping a screw head clean off on a bracket install last summer. If you're dealing with sloping ground, picking brackets with adjustable slots instead of fixed holes can save you from stacking too many washers, though it's still a hacky fix. That said, a solid bracket system leveled right will outlast the wood you bolt it to, so it's worth getting them set up right.
