Pro tip: that $22 Goodwill VCR from Cincinnati saved my bad movie nights and I will not apologize
Everyone in this group keeps saying go digital, rip everything, buy a projector. I disagree. I grabbed a beat up VHS player at a Goodwill in Cincinnati about 7 months ago for $22 and it has been the best money I ever spent on this hobby. Half the stuff we laugh at never made it to DVD, so the tape is the only way to watch it. We popped in a copy of a dubbed kung fu movie on a Friday and the tracking lines and the fuzzy audio made it ten times funnier. The remote had a dead battery and a sticker from a video store that closed before I was born. We now do a rule where nobody can pause, and it turns into chaos every time. The picture wobbles and we cheer. Anyone else still running a tape deck for their bad movie nights, or am I the only one left?
