So I compared two director's cuts of the same disaster movie

Last Friday I watched the theatrical version of that shark tornado sequel with my buddy for some laughs, then the next night we threw on the director's cut that adds 20 minutes of weird romance subplot. The extra footage made the terrible CGI look even worse and killed the pacing, so the original badness felt way more fun somehow. Has anyone else had a director's cut ruin a so-bad-it's-good movie for them?

Ever checked the runtime before picking a version to watch? That's my rule now after a director's cut turned a cheesy alien invasion into a three hour slog with extra lore dumps. The theatrical cut is the one the studio had to make watchable, so I trust that first instinct every time.

That extra 20 minutes sounds like it turned a fun disaster into a real drag. I had the same thing happen with a zombie flick where the director's cut added a whole backstory about the virus origins, and suddenly it wasn't dumb fun anymore, it was just dumb with a boring lecture. The theatrical version knows what it is, a mess, and it leans into that. A director's cut that tries to make the chaos make sense just kills the whole point of watching something that bad.
