The moment I realized I was watching bad movies wrong for years
I used to watch trash movies alone, taking notes on every plot hole and bad effect. Then my buddy dragged me to a Bad Movie Night at this dive bar in Austin last month. 15 minutes into this godawful 90s sci-fi thing, I looked around and everyone was laughing together, throwing popcorn at the screen, and I was sitting there with a clipboard like a weirdo. Now I just shut my brain off and enjoy the mess. Anyone else have a painful wake-up call about how they were overthinking the fun?

Wait, were you bringing a clipboard to a movie theater? Because that is next level and honestly I kind of respect the dedication but also yeah that sounds exhausting. I used to do the same thing with horror movies, pausing every five minutes to write down why the jump scare was predictable or how the lighting was off. Then one night my friends made me watch "The Room" with them and I finally got it. You just have to lean into the disaster and let it wash over you. Now I keep a tally of how many times the bad guy trips over his own cape instead of counting plot holes. Way more fun.

Same thing happens at restaurants now. I used to mentally critique every dish, now I just count how many tables order the same "world famous" burger.
