Debate: That $250 clipper sharpening kit I bought - lifesaver or waste?

I dropped $250 on a Taper Shark sharpening kit 3 months ago. On one hand, it saved me like $40 per month on sending blades out to a pro in Denver. But on the flip side, I ruined two pairs of my favorite clippers practicing the technique. What do you guys think - is learning to sharpen your own blades worth the risk, or should I have just stuck with the mail-in service?

Did you come out ahead financially after factoring in the cost of those two ruined clippers?
