Just had a debate with a barber at the Midwest Expo about clipper blade care...

I was at the Midwest Barber Expo in Chicago last month and got into it with this older guy who swore by soaking his blades in oil overnight. He said it keeps them sharp and rustfree... I always just wiped mine down and oiled before each cut. But he showed me my blades had micro rust spots under a magnifying glass that I never noticed. Now I'm wondering if I've been ruining my edges for years. On the other hand, leaving blades wet in oil could trap debris... so which way is actually better for blade life? Has anyone else tried overnight oil baths or found a specific method that works best?

Always figured a quick wipe and oil was plenty, but seeing those micro rust spots under magnification was a real eye-opener. He might be onto something with the overnight soak, at least for storage.

Ha, funny you mention that. A buddy of mine did the overnight soak thing on his hunting knife and forgot it in the garage for two days. Came back to a weird residue and a finish that looked like old milk. Guess it works if you actually remember to pull it out.
