Stopped freehanding beards after a $90 mistake

Used to just eyeball every beard trim with my Andis T-outliner, no guides, trusting muscle memory. Last month a client who'd been coming to me for two years asked for a 6mm uniform fade and I came in at 4mm on the left side. He didn't yell, just said 'that's not what I asked for', and walked out without paying. Now I use the adjustable lever and a comb to check every section, takes an extra 2 minutes but I haven't had a complaint since. Anyone else ditch freehand after one bad call, or do you still trust your eye over a guard?
