Told my mentor fades were dead, he made me eat crow in 20 minutes

I've been cutting for about 4 years now and I got real cocky with the modern styles. Told my old mentor, dude who's been in the game since the 90s, that fades were on the way out and everybody wanted textured crops and curtains now. He just laughed and said 'styles change but a clean fade never goes hungry.' Next Saturday he had me watch him do a skin fade on this kid with the worst cowlick I've ever seen. He worked that clipper like a painter and the kid walked out looking like a million bucks. Then he booked 3 more fades that same hour. I ate my words real quick. Now I'm trying to get my fade game sharper than my scissor work because that man proved demand isn't going anywhere. Any other young guys out there have to unlearn a hot take after watching an old timer work?
