Took me 3 years to realize I was holding my clippers wrong
A customer told me my hand looked cramped and asked if I was gripping it like a hammer. I laughed it off but then I actually looked at my hand. I was squeezing the clipper so tight my knuckles were white. It explained why my wrist hurt every night and why my fades were always choppy on the left side. Has anyone else had that moment where a customer pointed out something obvious you were messing up?

Man I felt this in my bones. Had a barber I looked up to just casually grab my hand mid-cut one time and say "bro you're choking the life out of that thing." I was gripping so hard my forearm would cramp up by my third head of the day. Switched to a lighter grip and suddenly my wrist stopped aching and my fades actually looked clean on both sides. Your mileage may vary but that white knuckle thing is real, it throws off your whole angle and control without you even noticing.

@marywells that story about the barber grabbing your hand is hilarious. I had almost the same thing happen but with a tattoo artist. Dude literally stopped mid line and was like "hey man you're about to snap that needle in half." I mean I didn't even realize I was white knuckling it until he said something. It's wild how much tension we hold without noticing. My wrist would ache for days after sessions until I forced myself to loosen up. Makes me wonder what other things I'm doing way too hard without even knowing it. Maybe that's why my handwriting looks so cramped too.
