Tried a new shear sharpening service versus my old guy, the difference is night and day.

My regular sharpener retired, so I sent my main shears to a mail-in service I saw online for $25. They came back looking fine but pulling hair on the first cut. I found a local guy in Phoenix who charges $40 and uses a whetstone by hand. The edge is so smooth now, it glides without any tugging. Anyone know a good way to test a sharpening service before committing your best tools?

That exact thing happened with my first mail-in job too. @sandra693, a cheap pair test sounds like a solid way to sort the good sharpeners from the rest.

Check if they'll sharpen a cheap pair first. That's how I found my guy, saved my good shears from a bad job.

Jennifer69 has a solid plan, but is it really that big a deal?
