Tried using a #3 guard all the way up instead of fading and it looked awful
Had a regular come in last Tuesday who always gets a fade. He was in a hurry so I figured I'd just run a #3 all the way up to save time. Thought it would look clean enough. Man it looked like a helmet. No blending, just a brick on top of his head. Had to go back and freehand the fade anyway which took longer than if I just did it right the first time. Lesson learned - don't cut corners just because someone's in a rush. Anyone else have a shortcut that backfired bad?

I started telling people up front that rushing a haircut is going to cost them more time in the long run. Had a guy try to rush me once and I just stopped and told him straight up either we do it right or he goes somewhere else. He sat back down and let me work. Now I tell every walk-in who's in a hurry that a quick buzzcut is fine if they want it all one length but a fade takes what it takes. Saves me from having to fix my own mistakes later.

Wait, @brookefox you actually stopped mid-cut and told a guy that? That's insane, did he really just sit back down?
