Walked into a barbershop in Brooklyn and saw something wild

I popped into this little shop near Flatbush last Thursday to grab some clipper oil. The guy at the chair was using a butter knife to section hair for a fade. I asked him about it and he said his comb broke and he was improvising. Has anyone else seen some weird tool substitutions on the job?

Butter knife for sectioning is actually pretty smart in a pinch.

And @kelly.robin, you're right it is pretty smart. But honestly this is part of a bigger thing I've noticed - people in trades are always making stuff work with whatever is around. My buddy who fixes bikes once used a flattened soda can to shim a brake pad. It's like there's this whole secret layer of ingenuity that happens when the proper tool isn't available and you just need to get the job done.
