Why did nobody tell me to check the neck pocket before gluing?

I spent 2 years building guitars where the action never felt right, until a luthier in Austin pointed out my neck pocket had a 2mm gap on the bass side, and now I'm wondering how many of you guys check that first or is it just me?

Straight edge and feeler gauges are your best friends now, saved me from two builds going sideways. Just a tiny shim on the bass side fixed my action issues overnight.
