DAE notice how much better the brisket got on that one show after season 3?

Went back and watched the first season of 'Smoke Showdown' and the brisket slices from the early episodes look dry and crumbly compared to the juicy, perfect smoke rings they were pulling off by the fourth season, which makes me wonder if the pitmasters finally got a handle on their cooker temps or if the producers just hired better advisors.

Yeah that's a solid point from susansh, better meat can make a huge difference. But honestly I see this everywhere, not just TV. It's like any skill, you just get better with time and messing up. Those first season pitmasters were probably still figuring out their own gear under all those lights and cameras. By season four, they'd done it a hundred times, knew exactly what to watch for. Practice makes perfect, or at least way juicier brisket lol.

Maybe the budget for meat quality went up...

It's funny how that works with everything though, not just cooking shows. You see the same thing with home renovation series where suddenly everyone has nicer tile and better lighting by season three, but nobody mentions that the crew figured out how to use the camera angles better too. It's like when you start a new hobby and your first few attempts are rough, then you look back after a year and realize you just naturally got better without even trying (plus your wallet got a little heavier). Same logic applies to those pitmasters, they probably started upgrading their own gear as they earned more from the show, making the whole process smoother.
