Hot take: that judge's 5 second taste test doesn't tell us anything

Back in 2019 I was at a small backyard comp outside Austin. One judge walked up to my brisket, took one bite, nodded, and walked off before I could even say hi. The whole thing lasted maybe 10 seconds total. I spent 14 hours on that cook and they gave me a 6. But the guy next to me who pulled his meat off at 190 and wrapped in foil got an 8. That judge later told the organizer my bark was 'too aggressive'. It stuck with me because we treat these guys like they're experts, but theyre just people with opinions. How much can you really judge a cook in one quick bite? Has anyone else had a moment where a judge's comment made you question the whole scoring system?
