Spent $340 on a used offset smoker off Marketplace and the firebox was cracked under the paint
Drove out to a guys place near Modesto to look at it. He had it running when I got there, which should have been my first clue. Fire going, thin blue smoke, looked great. Gave him $340 cash and hauled it home.
Got it cleaned up the next weekend and found a hairline crack in the firebox right along a weld. He had smeared JB Weld over it and painted right over the top. Ran it once at 250 and the crack opened up enough that I could see the fire through it. Temps swung 75 degrees every time the wind shifted.
So now I am out the money, plus about 6 hours of driving, plus the cost of a new firebox if I even want to mess with it. Anyone had luck getting a cracked firebox welded, or am I better off parting this thing out and starting over?
