Stopped in at a joint in Austin and their pitmaster was using a leaf blower on the coals

Ngl I was skeptical at first but watching that guy blast the ash off with a leaf blower before adding new wood made me rethink my whole fire management setup, has anyone else tried this or is it just a Texas thing?

Had a buddy who tried this at a backyard cookout after seeing a video online. He fired up his offset smoker, grabbed a leaf blower from the garage, and blasted the coals like he was clearing a driveway. Worked great for about thirty seconds until he sucked up a bunch of ash and dust and blew it right into the face of his neighbor who was holding a tray of ribs. Whole yard looked like a gray snowstorm hit it. Took him an hour to rinse the meat off and re season the grate. His wife still brings it up every time we fire up the grill. You ever see anyone attempt this in a more controlled way, like with a smaller handheld blower?

Gray snowstorm" is the perfect description. That poor guy's ribs never stood a chance.
