Customer feedback on my wheel build changed my spoke tension approach

A guy came in last Tuesday with a wobbly rear wheel I'd built three weeks prior. He wasn't rude, just said 'you should feel the spokes more than see them flat'. I'd been using a tension meter but only to hit a number, not to check uniformity across the rim. That comment made me redo the wheel, and I found five spokes that were way off from the rest, like 10 kgf difference. Now I take twice as long on every build, feeling each spoke by hand before I even grab the meter. Has anyone else switched to a hand-feel first method after a similar reality check?

Did you find your fingers just knew the bad spots before the meter did?
