Had a customer yesterday who insisted I was wrong about his brake cable routing
He kept pointing at a photo from some forum saying I should run it outside the frame, even though I could see the housing was already fraying from the curve he wanted. I asked him if he'd let me show him the difference in cable pull with a 5 minute test, and he finally agreed after I tweaked his front derailleur for free.

That "forum photo" thing you mentioned is spot on, I run into that all the time and it drives me nuts. People see one picture online and suddenly they're the expert, even when the actual hardware is screaming at them that it's wrong. Glad you stuck to your guns and proved it with that test, sometimes showing them is the only way to get through.

Pointed out that fraying housing is pretty much the smoking gun in these arguments, right? I've seen customers argue for routing that literally bends the housing tighter than the manufacturer spec, which is just asking for trouble down the road. The whole "forum photo" thing always cracks me up because those pics are usually from someone who set it up wrong and it happened to work for a week before they posted the glory shot. Good on you for actually showing him the cable pull difference though, I find most people just need to see it with their own eyes before they'll admit the frame engineers probably knew what they were doing. Did he end up admitting the factory routing was smoother after that test?
