Swapped my old patch-and-ride approach for a full tire rebuild last week

I used to just slap a patch on a tube and call it good, even if the tire had a torn sidewall. Last Tuesday I had a customer with a 3 inch gash in a Continental tire and I finally tried that tire boot trick with a dollar bill and some rubber cement. Took me 20 minutes to do it right, but the tire held air at 80 psi and the guy rode away happy. Anyone else switch to rebuilding tires instead of just patching tubes?

Three inch gash? That thing is a ticking time bomb man. Dollar bill or not, that's a blowout waiting to happen on a hot day.
