That $60 Park Tool chain whip I bought saved me from a shop bill
My cassette was completely stuck after a muddy ride last spring. Tried using an old generic chain whip and it just slipped right off the cogs. Broke down and bought the Park Tool SR-2 for about sixty bucks at my LBS. That thing grabbed the cassette teeth like a vice and I had it off in two minutes flat. Now I don't dread drivetrain swaps anymore. Has anyone else found a specific tool that was worth every penny for your home stand?

That "like a vice" bit makes me wonder, did the old one slip because it was worn out or just cheap?

Wasn't it more about the metal being too smooth than worn out? A lot of those older models had a pretty slick surface from the factory, not much grip at all. Cheap or not, I think design played a bigger part than people give it credit for.
