That customer who told me I was lubing chains wrong

Had some guy in full kit watch me put lube on a customer's chain last Tuesday and he goes "you're just making a mess doing it that way." He showed me to put one drop on each roller pin by turning the crank backwards real slow and now I actually get way less lube fling-off after rides. Has anyone else had a random stranger call them out on something that turned out to be a better way?

Only thing worse than getting unsolicited advice is when it actually works and makes you look like a hack. I had a guy at a group ride tell me my tire pressure was too low and I was about to snap at him, but then I checked and he was dead on, so I just had to nod and say thanks through my teeth. Nothing like a stranger in spandex humbling you in three seconds flat.

85 psi on a 25c tire... that's what the guy told me once at a gas station, huh @patkelly... I still think about it. He was right though, and I never told anyone until now. Sometimes the know-it-alls actually know something, and it stings worse than being wrong. I still check my tires before every ride now, even after five years.
