That old timer's advice about greasing pedal threads backfired on me
A retired mechanic at our co-op told me to always grease pedal threads to prevent seizing, so I did that on a customer's touring bike last month. Well, the pedals loosened up after 200 miles and the guy nearly crashed when his foot slipped off at a stoplight. Has anyone else run into problems with grease making pedals come loose instead of staying tight?

Always grease pedal threads" they said. "It'll prevent seizing" they said. Well I greased mine once and my left pedal took a solo tour of its own down a hill. Nearly took out a mailbox. Now I just use a tiny bit of anti-seize and crank them down like I mean it. Live and learn I guess.

Oh man, that's the kind of pedal betrayal that builds character lol. I did the same thing on my commuter bike once, but instead of a mailbox, my rogue pedal almost took out a little old lady walking her pug. She didn't even flinch, just gave me this look like I was the village idiot. Now I use a dab of blue Loctite and torque them to factory spec, no grease, no anti-seize, just pure trust issues. My knees and that pug are probably still grateful I learned the hard way.
