The time I used a heat gun on a seized seatpost and it actually worked

A customer brought in a steel frame with an aluminum seatpost that was totally stuck. I tried the usual tricks, like penetrating oil and a bench vise, for over an hour with no luck. As a last try, I carefully used a heat gun on the seat tube for about 90 seconds, focusing on the area just below the clamp. I heard a small pop, and the post twisted free with a normal wrench. I learned that a little controlled heat can break the corrosion bond without hurting the frame's paint if you're careful. Has anyone else had success with this method on different frame materials?

That pop sound is the corrosion bond breaking.

Yeah, that pop is so satisfying. I had an old truck where the lug nuts were basically welded on with rust. First time I broke one free, the sound was like a gunshot. Felt like I won a small battle.
