Tried the zip tie trick on a stuck bottom bracket and it snapped the frame mount
Saw a guy on YouTube say to zip tie the cable guide down before pulling a seized BB on a 2018 Trek, so I tried it and the tab on the frame cracked clean off. Turns out that trick only works on older steel frames, not carbon. Now I am out $85 for the repair and the frame is still sitting in the stand. How do you all handle a BB that will not budge without using the frame as leverage?
Using a heat gun on the shell for a couple minutes then hitting it with penetrating oil while it's still warm has worked for me on seized BBs, repeat a few cycles if it's really stuck. Also make sure you've got the right tool fully seated and maybe a breaker bar with a cheater pipe instead of trying to hold the frame down. Honestly on a carbon frame I'd rather take it to a shop than risk cracking the shell myself.
