Veteran mechanic told me to use grease on pedal threads, now I am dealing with creaking after 3 months

Had an old timer at the local co-op swear up and down that putting grease on pedal threads was the only way to go. I followed his advice on a customer's aluminum crank set back in June. Now the pedals are creaking like crazy and I can't get them to stop. Anyone else had this issue or am I stuck pulling the cranks and cleaning everything out?

Funny enough that grease can actually trap moisture in there over time and cause corrosion.

Used to think grease was always safe but you just changed my mind on that.
