Warning: I thought that new ceramic grease was just hype until a customer's 10-speed shifter came back smooth as butter after six months of daily winter commutes.
What other small upgrades have you guys seen that actually make a big difference in long-term wear?

Smooth as butter" is my dream, my own shifters sound like a bag of rocks after a week.

It's the same with so many things now, right? New gear works perfectly, then it just... degrades. My headphones started with crystal clear sound and now they crackle if I move my head. Planned obsolescence feels baked into everything we buy, which is a real bummer. You just want stuff to keep working like it did on day one.

@the_miles and @averym82 I feel your pain on the crackling and the rock sounds. What worked for me was cleaning the headphone jack with a bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, let it dry fully before plugging back in. It fixed that moving crackle issue completely on my last pair, your mileage may vary of course.
